About us

The founding team of comaps emerged in 2019 from a research project at the City Science Lab of HafenCity University Hamburg. The software, developed in cooperation with the City of Hamburg, has been successfully used there by over 200 active users since 2020.

Our advisory board chair and co-partner is Prof. Dr. Gesa Ziemer. She is the Director of the City Science Lab and is seconded to the UN as the Academic Lead of UNITAC

The project was honored in 2022 with the MIT Young Innovator Europe Award. Europe Award ausgezeichnet.

Our Philosophy

Social systems are complex.

Comaps streamlines the integration of GIS analyses into urban planning and simplifies this process. As an open-source tool, it ensures security and openness.

Sharing visions

"Even if each of us plays only one note, together we can create a symphony."

Daten In a collaborative environment, various participants benefit from sharing data. Information from diverse sources enables precise analyses and forecasts. You decide which data you make visible to whom, share work statuses and publish results. You retain full control over your data landscape.

Vision

Our vision is to shape urban planning as it exists today so that architecture will still be economically viable in 100 years. This includes the sensible repurposing of existing buildings and the forward-looking planning of new neighborhoods.

Working methods

Open Source Foundations and OGC standards

The existing application was built on the Masterportal framework and is continually developed within this context based on the open-source MIT license.

By releasing the source code, we encourage active exchange and adaptation within the geodata community, simultaneously providing transparency for decision-makers in the public interest.

All comaps modules are continuously developed and, in some cases, publicly released. We host, maintain, and support the application and all other services on our own servers.
